Has Autocorrect on the iPhone gotten worse in iOS 13?
For at least two years now, my iPhone has insisted on autocorrecting Sydney to SYDNEY, every single time I type the word. After weeks of troubleshooting that included resetting the keyboard and uninstalling any transit apps I thought might be to blame, I realised the culprit.
Finally, an Apple Laptop with a great keyboard
The much maligned butterfly keyboard has finally been replaced with a new and improved scissor mechanism. The keyboard is so much more comfortable to type on than the butterfly keyboards it replaces; keys have a satisfying bounce and 1mm of travel, and are far quieter.
Reliability and repairability have also been addressed; now if a crumb falls under a key, you can pop that single key off, instead of replacing the entire top cover of the keyboard; just like most other laptop keyboards on the market.

AirPods Pro review: better than the original buds in every way
For the last year, when I’ve been asked for recommendations about truly wireless earbuds, my answer has been “if you’re an iPhone user, and you want convenience, battery life and just a great user experience, go AirPods, but if you value noise cancelling and don’t mind in-ear, the Jabra Elite 65t are better for you.” Now, the answer is simpler; buy whatever AirPods your budget can afford.

Bridging the gap between tablet and laptop
With the upcoming release of iPadOS — a dedicated variant of iOS tailored for the iPad’s bigger screen — on September 30, software on the iPad Pro will finally live up to the power of the hardware. But for many users, the iPad can never be a true laptop replacement if the keyboard doesn’t feel right. (read more)
Samsung AR Emoji are NQR
Looking at the Samsung AR emoji created by a bunch of tech journos, there was something odd about them I just couldn’t put my finger on. Then it dawned on me; it makes everyone thin. Just like Bitmoji before it, Samsung are too worried they’ll offend you by making your avatar chunky, so everyone ends up thinner virtually than they are in real life. Apple sidestepped this by making their Animoji, well, animals. What a bizarre world we live in.
Apple Is Planning Its First Education-Related Event Since 2012 – Bloomberg
Its last education-related event took place in New York City in 2012. The company said in an invitation Friday that it will share “creative new ideas for teachers and students” at the affair, which will take place at Lane Tech College Prep High School.

This is pretty exciting – we saw some great new classroom features come to the iPad in iOS 11 – I’m hoping to see more of that, and as a Mac Sys admin working at a University right now, a few more tools for the Mac would be welcomed, too. The most intriguing rumours are around Apple’s laptop line – with talk of a possible rev to the education workhorse, the MacBook Air.
